Embrace Nature with the African Ranger Barefoot Boot

The African Ranger Barefoot Boot is all about keeping things natural and comfy for your feet. It’s like giving your feet a smooth ride on level ground. Plus, there’s lots of space up front in the toe area, so your big toe and pinkie toe can spread out without feeling squished against the sides. These boots are like your foot’s best friend – they’re super flexible and can bend and twist just like your foot would. The soles are thin, so you can feel the ground beneath you better. Going barefoot-style is where the magic happens. No need to worry about springs in your toes or fancy arch support. These boots let your feet do their thing naturally. So, if you’re all about comfy, flexible, and feet-happy footwear, the barefoot boot is where it’s at!

A good first impression from the Barefoot Ranger. The buffalo skin is a little more pliable than I was expecting, soles grip well dry urban terrain as well as bushlands. Overall a comfortable boot, no rubbing or blisters in the first 4 days of use ( I use thick wool socks).
I have worn Vivobarefoot boots over the last 6 years in that time I have worn out 4 pairs. While I enjoyed the comfort of the Vivo, unfortunately the soles, stitching, eyelets; all failed prematurely. This included a sole being pierced by the blunt end of the kick-starter on the motorbike.
The fit – typically I am 45EU. The 11 (46EU) fits well with thick wool socks. Plenty of room, no side compression on toes. I did experience heel slip, however tightening the laces solved that issue.
Break in – These boots are not broken in, however, the first wear I over tightened the laces and walked around 5kms over uneven terrain. This helped ‘loosen’ the leather. By day two the boots were quite comfortable.
The soles do well in the scrub, at least while it is dry. I did get caught in a little rain and within minutes the tread was slick with wet red loam. To be expected.
I needed a barefoot boot that will handle a lot of bush walking, workshop and every day abuse on the farm. I am very pleased with how this boot is performing so far. I expect I will be due for a sole change due to the softer rubber – It’s so refreshing to have the option after using throw away boots.
Contrary to some reviews I have come across, you can comfortably run in these boots.
I did read varying opinions on fit, some suggesting to go up a 1/2 size for the barefoot shoe, others suggesting your regular size. I concluded at size 11 (29cm), measuring my foot at 28.5cm I decided on the additional room.
If I was looking for a snug fit I suspect the 10-1/2 would have been perfect. For the barefoot shoe, 1/2 size up has been very comfortable especially the width around toes.
