I slept on these for a while due to there being absolutely no details listed about them here on the website, but eventually I found some reviews on the US Jim Green website and Reddit. I created an account to post this so others will have a point of reference. I put these footbeds into my size 9 African Rangers, they were about 2-3mm too long but I compared them against the original footbeds and trimmed the excess. They now fit perfectly lengthwise. I will admit I was a little apprehensive about the width and how they would fit in the enormous toe box - but after wearing them a few times now I'm happy to report there are no issues there, they fit the width perfectly. They are extremely comfortable and I can quite happily wear them for long periods of time with plenty of walking. This is a huge improvement over the default footbeds, which I found to be quite stiff and uncomfortable. I would say they are approaching the level of comfort of my RM Williams Comfort Craftsmans, but are superior to those in terms of walking around. This is a bit of an apples and oranges comparison but it's the best I can give. Construction wise, they are made from high density foam and have a layer of leather on top that is probably around 1mm thick. They are raised at the edges near the heel, which cups my heel quite nicely and prevents any slippage. There is some arch support which suits my needs, but those with high arches may not find it satisfactory. They cost $10 for shipping in Australia, so expect to pay that on top of the cost of the footbed. For ~$40 I am very happy - they have made my boots considerably more comfortable and I think they will increase in comfort as they mold to my feet. I expect the leather to be quite long lasting and will not need to replace them for a few years at least, unlike many of my fabric insoles.

If you have wide feet like me you will love these boots. They broke in after maybe one day, no blisters. Finally got a pair of boots I can truly call comfortable. Thanks Jim!

A word of warning to anyone considering these boots. Although I found the fit and construction stellar! I work in sometimes wet conditions and also living in rainy New Zealand, I would compare it to walking on an ice rink. For any wet, slick surfaces. My previous experience was wearing RedBacks which had far better grip although, a softer probably less durable compound. So consider the conditions you might be using these boots in. It's possible their other soles are better in this circumstance.

Great and robust boots, they ran about a half size large on my narrow heels but I have long feet so an insole and a pair of wool socks has them feeling snug around the back. Make sure to get a tin of saddle soap because they will dry out quick without some love like any true leather boot. They look better than the photos with a nice satin black finish out of the box.

Quite possibly the best shoe I've ever owned. The weight of your average sneaker, the protection of a boot. Bought some extra sets of flat laces (125ish cm on the size 12.5) so I can mix and match with whatever I'm wearing. Also, if you're a martial artist, this is the shoe you're seeking. The wider toebox to fully articulate my feet is a great help for training outside, and the amount of feedback I can pick up from the ground in each step is great for feeling connected to the earth.

Great boots. These aren't comparable to barefoot shoes like those by Vivo -- which are essentially just a glued-together slipper made from synthetics. These boots are full leather stitched uppers with welted (thus repairable) soles, while also being wide toebox and zero drop. They are super comfortable with minimal break-in time. They look really good too (better than the photos). They are true to size (I went up a half size to fit in orthotics).

Thankyou for : the rigour of traditional construction, leather in substance - not a word, beauty, hi-cut, welted soles, naked vamp, heel piece, a generous price and an ethic and a consciousness that simplicity & style is not an anachronism. 4 months on, through southern nsw winter, these are robust & comfortable. Break in was not hard, i use beeswax & tallow for dressing & buff with goat hair brush, subtle patina & shine ; better to be a working ass than a show pony. Eyelets, lace hooks & long laces all reflect a thoroughness in thought & function resonating with the boot. It is light, giving a confidence to endure with rubber sole & traction lugs for variable terrain. City concrete & roads are surprisingly - to me - walkable ( some boots are a pain in this area ). I am size 10, the last is wide, to encompass many anomalies - cos we're all different. To me, it is a fine boot, & I am content with it . . . and to procure another nice brown pair, soon. Possibly Veg Tanned Leather if custom option available. The process was transparent & fast from W.A to N.S.W. Regards James.

This boot is fantastic! I don't normally write reviews for clothes, but frankly I feel like this is warranted. After going through multiple Doc Martens and hand-me-down boots due to tough wear, I decided to get a actually good pair of boots that'll not only look good but also be suitable in my hikes. At first I looked at Iron Rangers but were very much outside of my price range, which is where the Numzaan piqued my interest. I love heritage style boots, and here was one that was half the price and somehow more leather, and I decided to get it. So the positives: Wide toe box (which is fantastic for a guy with massive feet like me), THICC leather upper, insole, and midsole which means it'll last for a very long time and conform to your foot, stichdown construction means an easy resole in the future, looks great and feels comfortable (once broken in) The negatives (more nitpicks if anything): Supremely tough break in (got a fair few blisters and bruises but the break in experience will vary depending on your experience), and the yellow dye in the lining will rub off on any white/light colored socks but it does wash off, so if you regularly take your socks off, just be aware, Overall, I am extremely happy with the boot, and frankly it's the best boot I've ever tried, despite the rough break in period. Also, if you do get it in the lug option, it makes you feel like a badass so 10/10 for the coolness factor.

I have been looking for a pair of boots like this for years ! Flat sole - comfy - room for toes - quality leather - damn well built ! And good for work / play and all things in between Stoked !

On the whole a nice boot, ruggedly built, very affordable, with a very good, true to size fit. I was hoping to really love them, but I did run into some potential quality control issues in the pair I received. On receiving the boot I noticed some stray glue marks, on one of the heels and one of the toe covers, but they were inconspicuous enough that they didn’t bother me too much. Unfortunately in my limited wear-in period the right-hand toecap quickly developed moderately deep, striated wrinkles, that look somewhat unsightly when the light hits them in the wrong way. Generally I’m fine with marks and patina, but the level of wrinkling surprised me, and I’m assuming this will get more pronounced over time. This isn’t a big deal if you’re main goal is hiking and outdoor work where looks are less of a concern, but I’d been hoping to use them in causal settings as well. I tried emailed Jim Green with photos, asking for some care advice, but didn’t hear back. I’ve since attempted to use some nubuck conditioner to soften the wrinkles, but my efforts haven’t been that successful. I’ve been contemplating maybe trying to use some dubbin (or something similar) to re-hydrate and condition the leather, but that’s a more invasive step and will change its properties significantly. All that said, I’m still expecting to get good use out of them, and for the money they’re hard to beat. I really hope Jim Green continues to make barefoot boots like these and shipping them to Australia. I’m still contemplating picking up a Houston brown pair, as they seem really nice too. Hopefully I’ll have better luck with them!

Just got a pair. Super solid and well made. Very comfortable and true to size( maybe a little generous). Looks like they’ll last a lifetime. Never been a fan of boots because ihate having a heal but wanted something for the winter so these looked like what I was after.

Amazing boots, everything good said about them is true, the only thing better than the boots was the service. I accidentally ordered the wrong size, the team allowed me to send my boots back and get my actual size for no cost when it was completely my fault.

Fantastic boots! My wife bought me a pair of Ranger boots for my birthday. I've only had them for a couple of days but so far they are incredibly comfortable. When I first tried them on I thought they were too big as I was unused to the amount of room at the toes. Lacing them and walking in them was a revelation. No slippage, no rubbing anywhere and ridiculously comfortable. I realise I've only been walking in them for two days but every other boot or shoe I've worn for the same time period has showed it's true colours by then. Beautifully made and good to look at too. Very happy with these boots. Would definitely recommend them

Amazing! Such high quality materials. They give a real barefoot feel but with added toughness. Barefoot shoes are notoriously fragile, but not these beauties. Perfect work boots or hiking boot for those needing the toe room and barefoot style but also looking for quality and toughness. Cannot recommend more.

Solid well made boots, the break in period was a little hard but after a month these boots are an absolute dream, well worth the price.

I received my pair couple days ago. Honestly the quality was better than expected. I have been trying differnt boots / leather shoes from differnt brands, and with the price point of this boots I thought it would be a mediocre quality boots, but when I actually received the physical boots, the high quality surprised me. Legit stuff! They are really good boots and I am excited to put some miles in!

I ordered the 8half because I have fairly wide feet. Sadly the boots was just a bit to big even with wearing thicker socks. I contacted the comp and they gladly replaced my order with a normal size 8. Fits perfectly now. Haven't done any patrol hiking with them yet in the Knysna Forest. But I am Shure they will do the job splendidly. So just a heads up it's a fairly "wide" boot in the front if you think you need to get the half. Will report back on how they tackle the trails later

I cannot recommend these boots enough. Since February 2020, I’ve had the chance to put my pair of AR8 boots (previously a special request style) through hell. From 6 hours hikes through muddy rainforests and up mountains, to hunting in the Australian bush, and crawling around under houses. This is on top of daily wear at work and on the farm, around 10 hours a day, 6/7 days a week for over 18 months. Although not advertised as waterproof like the Monster, I’ve never gone home with soggy feet. After a few hours on really wet trails, a bit of moisture will get in but not enough to ruin the experience. The 8 inch hight definitely helps with this, and on one particular trail which I have walking in both my Monsters and AR8s, these boots performed better in regards to keeping me dry. These truly are a boot you can put on and forget they’re even there. The last thing you want to worry about while undertaking any of the above-mentioned tasks is your footwear. Something I wish I had done sooner is get the Jim Green Leather Food. It is excellent. A great combination of waxy and oily. In winter and when I know I’ll be exposed to the elements for a long time, I use the Jim Green leather food and Dubbin on the stitching. The only change I have made to these boot is the insole. For what I use these for, I found I needed something extra for shock absorption and cushioning when on my feet all day. insoles from an old pair of Hi-Tech hiking boots did the trick. These are truly a hard wearing, comfortable, supportive, and stylish pair of boots. I wish I could post pictures of these boots and how they look now, as although they’ve been flogged, they look better than ever.

What you should ad is a false tongue, it is a small ad on for huge benefits. But the boot looks amazing. I will soon be ordering a pair.

So good I bought two pairs! One light and one dark brown. I love the Fudge Crazy Horse leather. Doesn't need polish and brushes clean with a suede cleaner and wire brush. Probably the most comfortable boots I've worn! Good for the bush and equally good with a pair of jeans. And best of all it's for a good cause to put more boots on Africa's rangers through the Game Rangers Association of Africa. Well done Jim Green on an awesome new product.

I've had the opportunity to test these AR8s in the field on a recent trip to Zimbabwe. For a heavy duty boot they are amazingly comfortable and durable. Just what you need in the field as a ranger. Great ankle support. I can see these boots lasting a long time (just like my other Jim Greens). Love them.

Congratulations for creating a very tough hiking, working boot. My Razorbacks have been in use for about a year and they are doing fine. No pampering. We live on a small mountain farm in the Western Cape and do all labour ourselves. During the past 34 years I've only been wearing boots. I am truly impressed with the durability of the soles of the Razobacks. Maybe the innersole can be leather, but truly a boot that I shall recommend. Well done Jim Green.

I use my Razorbacks on a farm in the Little Karoo, where the terrain is mostly rocky with little to no trails, other than game and sheep trails. I had to replace my "brand name" non leather hiking boots as they could not handle the tough terrain. After a few months of use, the Jim Green's have shown their worth as a tough work boot. Later this year, the real test will come when I start scouting routes for 4x4 and hiking trails.

Absolutely magnificent boots! I have had my Razorbacks for a long time now and have been on many multi day hikes carrying 20+ kg bags, never once have I had a blister or any hot spots. The first day I used them I went on a 15km hunt and had no problem with any blisters, and my feet had no trouble getting used to the shape of the boots in that first few days. My size 12 fit perfectly and are not that heavy considering it’s well made leather design. I have recommended these wonderful boots to all my friends and family, and have definitely boasted about how comfortable they actually are! Another bonus is how water proof they are, obviously if you don’t submerge them. Overall the best boots I have ever owned, and are the only boots I want to own! Super glad I own them!

These are realy comfortable boots and they are tough as nails. It took me about 3weeks to break them in, now it's my everyday boots that I wear.

I brought my Razorback & Bantam back in february with Steel cap toe for work purpose love those boots with superfeet insoles are amazing for 12h shifts, and would love to suggest an small improvment for people use then to work in factories , some kind of toe cap protector rubber, it would extend the life of boots , will be back for more in the future!

Wow. For the first time in many years I have shoed that actually fit me due to the half sizes. Had a few blisters breaking them in but now it is the only shoes I wear. Had them for about 4 months now and constantly wearing them for the last 3 months. With an average walking disfance of 5 km per day plus a hunting trip where we hiked about 12km per day for 4 days over very rough terrain there is no real sign of wear on the boots. They still look good enough for me to wear them to church. I am very impressed and ordering a second pair so I can alternate them to give them a chance to rest and dry properly. Not good for shoes to be worn every day.

These are really awesome boots. You need to break them in but will be comfortable as slippers afterwards. Amazingly durable. My next pair will be the same. Also great to have them in 1/2 sizes!

What an awesome pair of boots this is! I received mine a couple of months ago and I smile everytime I wear mine. Well built for any adventure or outing. I mainly use mine for hiking and casual wear with jeans. The boots fit the pupose of good grip, protection of feet and an acceptable level of comfort. The shoe has a wider fit which is comfortable enough for your toes to fit in without giving it a bulky look. As this is a full leather grain boot, it took me quite a while to get worn in. In the beginning I had blisters at the back of my ancle, but this is expected with a new leather boot. The size fits perfectly though. Constant treatment of dubbin and working the leather helped me to brake them in easier. It is important to wear the correct type of socks though. Even though the sole feels hard (solid rubber sole), this can easily be adjusted with the help of an aftermarket insole. I am happy to give 5 stars for these boots. The company is client driven and very helpfull throughout the process of puchacing the boots. I shall definitely make use of their service again.

I'm on my 4th pair, I wear them every day and always keep a pair on reserve when I eventually wear them out! These boots are like slippers, I LOVE THEM!!!!

I bought the Razorback boots and they are just so solid and comfortable. I have a chronic back problem since 1993 and I have a difficulty when it comes to the type of shoe I have to wear and comfort, but these shoes just made it and I felt no tension on my back. These boots are a must have in any shoe collection. They are so well priced and great for hiking or any other outdoor adventure.

tl;dr These boots are 100% worth it. They'll get the job done and you just can't beat quality at this price. -Background- I had been wanting some general work / hiking boots for a while. More specifically, I wanted a pair of boots that would last me years and when the time came I could get them resoled, but I didn't want it to cost me an arm and a leg. While doing some research I started seeing Jim Green pop-up on a few Instagram pages I follow. Everything written about them was good, and the price point was hard to ignore so I purchased a pair. -Sizing/Fit- Bought these in a size US 12D, which is what I wear in basically everything. They fit perfectly and are pretty comfortable. From what I understand, the company is looking to potentially upgrade their insole to leather, but what's used now works just fine and if needed down the road I can just use an insert. The toe box is a bit roomy, but I like that - IMO nothing worse than cramped toes. -Overall impression- I'm super pleased with these. They fit great, meet my need and they really feel like they'll last. It's nice to be able to buy some quality footwear at this price point and know that it'll get the job done AND you wont have to buy another pair a year later. -Random notes- Jim Green will replace the footbed and laces if doing a resole through them. I'm not sure what the cost is for doing a resole, especially shipping form the U.S., but I'm sure you could reach out to them and they'd let you know. On a related note, their customer service is amazing. I had asked several questions about the construction (stitch down if anyone was wondering) and materials used, and I received several timely and informative responses.

The best boots ive ever bought. Wear them every single day. Most comfortable. If you are a heavy oak like me invest in thicker inner soles. Otherwise the best shoes by far. Soon buying my 2nd pair.

My Razorbacks are now 18 years old (young!). I had them resoled in 2014 and they seem good for another 10 years.They are my "go to" boots for any hiking and are especially resistant to the 'sekelbos' thorns which infested much of Limpopo.

The build quality and fit and finish of these boots well exceeded my expectations. They seem to be hitting well above the 130 dollar price. They seem more like a 300 dollar boot. Can’t wait to see how these are after they’re broken in.

I liked this product. I collect many boots and saw my favorite YouTube Rose Anvil give a quick review of one of their other boots and I wanted to give them a try. They are very high quality leather, full grain I believe, and are good for applications in uneven terrain. My feet feel well planted to the ground and I feel comfortable wearing them. Amazing product

These are great well made boots. Due to funny feet I have, had to return 9 for 9.5. Since receiving 9.5 have been wearing every other day doing chores on property and running errands in town for about 30 days. Boots now getting broke in and have placed in work boot rotation so they get worn every third or fourth day depending on activity planned. Thus allowing them to dry out. I have weak ankle so these boots being solid and stable with excellent support are a joy in the field. Jim Green Razorback compare favorably with other boots I own or have owned including Limmer, Irish Setter, Chippewa, Sears Die Hard to name a few. Just gave first treatment of leather care to boots. Look as good as new. Excellent boot.

Nice deep teeth in the sole, great pliable leather uppers and a great classic bush look. Removable foot bed and very comfortable. Wore them around the house for a couple days then took them out into the mud and rocks of Pennsylvania. They did extremely well and had a great bite into the dirt and mud. You can’t beat the classic design and great attention to detail in these boots.

If I could give this pair of boots 10 stars for comfort and affordability I would in an instant! You cannot beat the price of these handmade boots and how the company supports many local workers in their area. Kudos for that. Straight out of the box these boots are some of the most comfortable things that I have ever put on my feet. I decided to wear them to work the day after receiving them and they surely didn't disappoint. I was on my feet for 14hrs that first day and had zero fatigue. Now that I've had them for a month I can tell you that these are now my Go To boots for everything! They are great for work and they look great with some jeans going out on the town for dinner! I can't wait to purchase another pair so that I can rotate between the two pairs to make them last even longer. If you are on the fence at all about purchasing these boots, just Jump!! You won't regret it.

I bought this boot following an online review, I had to wait a bit for my size (11) to be available but the wait was worth it. The boot fits as well as my other size 11 boots and having an all leather upper is a welcome feature since it allows the feet to breathe well and the perspiration to evaporate quicker. The break-in took about 15 miles and then the boots are comfortable, however the break-in was brutal. I developed a large blister on the back of the right heel as well as a small blister on the top of the right toe. I should mention that I believe if I had taken a more sedate approach doing short walks there would not have been blisters. Instead upon receipt of the boots I put them on and went out on a three mile (5 kilometers) urban walk about. I would recommend three changes although I realize the price is very likely to go up. These changes are: (1) Use leather for the footbed, (2) Delete the insole or include a higher quality one (my insole was flat at the 40 mile mark), and (3) Install an additional lace eyelet by the toes. Overall I am very satisfied with the boots and I have recommended it to my coworkers and friends.
