The Boot that Puts Boots onto Rangers
50% of Rangers don’t have access to sufficient Boots and Gear and over 40% are required to purchase their own Boots.
With the future of our wilderness areas in the hands of those with boots on the ground, Jim Green Footwear and The Game Rangers Association of Africa (GRAA) have come together to make sure this issue is addressed.
Inadequate gear for rangers leads to low morale and affects ranger well-being. With Rangers being on the front line of our conservation areas, a quality pair of boots is essential for everyday tasks.
An addition to the Ranger family with a more robust finish and high ankle support while still prioritizing comfort, we introduce the African Ranger 8 inch.
Follow our journey through our social channels or contact us for further information.
- Manufactured with a double layer of leather (2.2mm full grain leather, lined with 1.6mm calf leather).
- Double layer of leather aids in the boots’ water-resistant properties (not waterproof).
- 8-inch height for excellent support, comfort, and protection.
- Thermoplastic toe puff and a heel stiffener for extra support.
- A steel shank between the insole board and sole offers extra support and stability.
- Insole board is secured to the upper with a double-stitched 2.2mm braided nylon cord.
- Sole is made from genuine rubber.
- Can be resoled.
- Due to the double layer of leather, the AR8 can tackle all kinds of terrain, making it ideal for the outdoor worker or hiker requiring that extra bit of toughness.
- JG last – This last has a 3E wide fit and offers a snugger feel all around with a flatter toe box.
- Sole: JG (This sole is our lug option and is designed for grip. It is a genuine rubber and of a firm feel to provide stability underfoot).
- Laces: 175 cm.
- Weight: 1.48kg (Size 8).

James (verified owner) –
Thankyou for : the rigour of traditional construction, leather in substance – not a word, beauty, hi-cut, welted soles, naked vamp, heel piece, a generous price and
an ethic and a consciousness that simplicity & style is not an anachronism.
4 months on, through southern nsw winter, these are robust & comfortable.
Break in was not hard, i use beeswax & tallow for dressing & buff with goat hair
brush, subtle patina & shine ; better to be a working ass than a show pony.
Eyelets, lace hooks & long laces all reflect a thoroughness in thought & function
resonating with the boot. It is light, giving a confidence to endure with rubber sole & traction lugs for variable terrain. City concrete & roads are surprisingly – to me –
walkable ( some boots are a pain in this area ).
I am size 10, the last is wide, to encompass many anomalies – cos we’re
all different. To me, it is a fine boot, & I am content with it . . . and to procure another nice brown pair, soon.
Possibly Veg Tanned Leather if custom option available.
The process was transparent & fast from W.A to N.S.W.
Regards James.
